WHAT DOES THE CIVILITY PROJECT DO?
HOW CAN I HELP?
- The Civility Project is a community building project of Susan Hensel and Susan Hensel Gallery in Minneapolis. It is a longterm, under the radar set of arts and actions that are designed to get people talking again, like neighbors.
WHAT THE CIVILITY PROJECT IS NOT!
- The Civility Project holds neither a left nor right political agenda. It is not a place, nor a project, to change people's political outlook. It is a project that encourages us to regard one another as valuable human beings first. It encourages attention to the needs and feelings of our shared humanity. It encourages us to speak with one another, no matter the belief system, with kindness and generosity. Is it possible to achieve understanding, even between opposing political beliefs, through civil discourse and deep listening? We think so.
IS THE CIVILITY PROJECT A REGISTERED NON-PROFIT?
- No, it is a function of Susan Hensel Design, LLC. However, it is not intended to be a profit-making venture. Donations and sales will be solicited simply to cover the direct expenses of the products, events and shipping.
WHAT DOES THE CIVILITY PROJECT DO?
- Every few months, a new community building event will be presented in Minneapolis. It will be an evening of conversation, artmaking and fun with take aways to share with others.
- Every few months, new products that encourage civil conversation will be produced, put on the website for sale, and directly distributed through volunteers. Objects might be: imprinted pencils with info on how to write to your legislators; buttons with civil conversation starters; business cards with conversation starters, postcards; stickers for guerilla action; window clings; membership cards; mugs; t-shirts; mail art opportunities; creative form letters...the options are endless and will be presented as they are ready.
